Machiavelli, Hobbes, and Rousseau.Mark Philp & Zbigniew Pelczynski (eds.) - 2012 - Oxford, GB: Oxford University Press.
This volume presents lucid and insightful studies of three great figures from the history of political thought, by John Plamenatz, a leading political philosopher of his time. This previously unpublished work exemplifies Plamenatz's view that engagement with canonical texts can enrich and expand our capacity for political reflection.

    Idealism, Politics and History. [REVIEW]Z. A. Pelczynski - 1972 - The Owl of Minerva 3 (4):1-4.
This book is a major intellectual achievement and an impressive contribution to political philosophy and Hegelian studies. Within the compass of under four hundred pages the author takes on four major thinkers - Rousseau, Kant, Fichte and Hegel - discusses them individually and in relation to each other to show the emergence, development and apogee of the idealist tradition in political philosophy.

Gaston Bachelard: a philosophy of the surreal.Zbigniew Kotowicz - 2016 - Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press.
Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962) was a seminal figure in contemporary French philosophy. Together with Michel Foucault, Georges Canguilhem and Jean Cavailles, he shaped the 'French epistemological' school of philosophy of science. In France, Bachelard is a towering presence; in the English-speaking world, he is little known. Now, Zbigniew Kotowicz gives us the first English language, in-depth presentation of the entire spectrum of Bachelard's work: epistemology, poetic imagination and temporality. And he explores an old philosophical tradition that Bachelard's thought opens up (...)

A Trial of Interpretation of Meister Eckhart’s Thought on God and Man through the Analysis of Its Paradoxes.Zbigniew Kaźmierczak - 2017 - Roczniki Filozoficzne 65 (1):5-22.
This article interprets Eckhart’s contradictions by presenting them as a result of an existential search for salvific power. It is shown that power is ambivalent in nature: it is the power of what is and the power of (self)overcoming (of what is). Just because power is in itself ambivalent and the process of searching for it existentialist (so not completely conscious), Eckhart’s mystical texts are full of contradictions and the German mystic is apparently not aware of it. The sample of (...)

  38. A report from Poland treatment and non-treatment of defective newborns.Zbigniew Szawarski - 1990 - Bioethics 4 (2):143–153.
Though it is evident that seriously and irreversibly defective infants are born in Poland, as well as in other socialist countries we do not know really what is the existing medical practice concerning their treatment or non-treatment. No representative empirical investigations were conducted with respect to it. We believe, however, that for the majority of doctors this is not a genuine moral problem at all. They feel simply morally, legally, and professionally obliged to treat those unhappy creatures without any regard (...)

The Rise and Essence of Universalism as a Metaphilosophy and Social Movement.Zbigniew Wendland - 2007 - Dialogue and Universalism 17 (7/8):123-131.
This paper discusses how Universalism came into being as a metaphilosophy and social movement, and outlines its main characteristics, meaning and content. The paper’s central theme is the accentuation of the two main aspects of Universalism. The first aspect is the key role of dialogue in Universalism. The second is the belief that Universalism is first and foremost a social movement, rather than a philosophical doctrine. In outlining the origins of Universalism, the invaluable role of Professor Kuczyński as its originator (...)

Husserl’s concept of transcendental consciousness and the problem of AI consciousness.Zbigniew Orbik - 2024 - Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences 23 (5):1151-1170.
Edmund Husserl, the founder of phenomenological philosophy, developed the concept of the so-called pure transcendental consciousness. The author of the article asks whether the concept of consciousness understood this way can constitute a model for AI consciousness. It should be remembered that transcendental consciousness is the result of the use of the phenomenological method, the essence of which is referring to experience (“back to things themselves”). Therefore, one can legitimately ask whether the consciousness that AI can achieve can possess the (...)

    Antitrinitarianism in Poland Before Socinus. A Historical Outline.Zbigniew Ogonowski - 2022 - Roczniki Filozoficzne 70 (4):87-141.
This is a reprint of the chapter “Prelude: Antitrinitarianism in Poland before Socinus” by Zbigniew Ogonowski in his "Socinianism: History, Views, Legacy" (Rome: Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura, 2021), 3–56. Reprinted with the permission of Edizioni di Storia e Letteratura. We are grateful to Valentina Saraceni for her permission to reprint this material in the present volume. The paper takes an in-depth look at an early, pre-Socinian stage of Polish antitrinitarianism. First, it outlines the historical reasons for the emergence (...)

Etyczne problemy sprawowania władzy w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwem.Zbigniew Pawlak & Andrzej Smoleń - 2008 - Annales. Ethics in Economic Life 11 (2):171-179.
When power is exercised in the enterprise some ethical issues might occur with business ownership, personnel policy, working conditions etc. These issues and ways of addressing them were depicted and interpreted from the perspective of the Church’s social teachings included in papal encyclicals, viz.: Rerum novarum, Laborem exercens, Centesimus Annus. In the Church’s social teachings a number of principles were noticed that are favourable for the ethical corporate management including the principle of the primacy of work over capital, right to (...)

Reasons for Moral Conduct.Zbigniew Jan Marczuk - 2010 - Philosophy in the Contemporary World 17 (1):66-77.
Scanlon grounds all moral principles in claims about "what individuals have reasons to agree to." Analyzing Scanlon's groundwork, I discuss his central reason for being concerned with morality and why personal and impersonal reasons for moral conduct cannot co-exist in his contractualism. I demonstrate that personal values and reasons are incommensurable with impersonal values and reasons. Thus, Scanlon needs to exclude impersonal reasons from the moral theory he advocates. But I argue that there may be a means of inclusion of (...)

The aim of this paper is to present a conception of the triple nature of mathematics. It is argued that the nature of mathematics is best served by distinguishing deep ideas (of concepts or propositions), their surface representations (signs which can be perceived by senses) and their formal models (in axiomatic theories). For instance, the concept „number π” has several different models in set theory (those based on Dedekind cuts and on Cantor's equivalence classes of Cauchy sequences) and yet all (...)
